Vision In Sliver: Final Thoughts

Finally, this book has concluded, and I'm happy to say goodbye. Vision is Sliver being the third book in the series never really gave me a chance to get into the book. This book has exposed me, farther into the possibilities of what a fantasy novel can be and really hasn't sold me on the genre.   The conclusion as expected didn't tell me everything I wanted to know, but I will not be reading the next book. I wanted to see more of the relationship that was becoming strong between Meg and Simon. "He thought giving Meg a couple of licks would make him feel better. He always felt comforted when he gave her hand a couple of licks while they watched a movie" (Page 407). They have a real connection and always seem to calm each other down when things spiral out of control. Meg and Simon are taking it slow and probably don't want to ruin what they do have. One thing I wish for in the next book is for Meg's life to remain stable and happy.    One criticism is the ...

Vision In Sliver: Post Three

As tension rises between humans and the others I think they should stop working together. The HFL movement isn't a just cause, but the idea of separation between both populations might be. The hate for how each other acts is always a underlying tone throughout this novel. Lizzy says "Is Miss Meg going to die because I was bad?" (Page 257).  Each party causes problems that puts everyone at risk and problems that seem to shut down the community until the problem is solved. As I continued to read I wasn't surprised when fights started to happen I was just waiting until it all boiled over. I am still very interested to see how the others plan to rid the world of humans if that is even possible. The effort in keeping the peace must be a strain on all those forced to pick a side. A very cool piece while reading this section was seeing the togetherness of the Wolfgard seeing them act as a family rather than a population is very special. Humans seem to lack empathy for their ...

Vision in Silver: Post Two

Vision in Sliver is finally starting the pick up and have some interesting story lines. First is the mystery surrounding Elayne and how she was murdered and by who. This has definitely got my attention because not only was she killed, but risked putting Lizzy on the train with the others on board. I wonder what she possibly could of gotten herself into. It must have something to do with Spencer leader of the Human First and Last organization. Which all has to do with the gems found in Boo Bear. "Gods above and below, where was Elayne? And what was she doing hiding a fortune inside Boo Bear." Another interesting topic is the Human First and Last movement which is causing social unrest between the Others and Humans. This movement will definitely cause trouble leading further into this novel. Meg the trailblazer and pathfinder will be the key to defusing this situation in the future I think. With her visions and ability to find peace in the real world she is the most valuable bl...

Vision in Sliver: Post One

Vision in Sliver is not my kind of book because of all the fantasy creatures. This being the third book in the series is part of the reason. I found myself lost at the beginning, but slowly got comfortable with the story line. Part of the confusion was from the assortment of characters and their roles. Another part taking time to get used to was the terminology that came with this book.  After this adjustment period was over, this book was very interesting when it came to the Blood Prophets. With these Blood Prophets comes the issue of owning people. Humans owning other humans with special abilities and using these abilities for their own profit. This is a troubling topic and is what makes this book bearable. What I definitely didn't like was the drowning of babies " sounds coming from the last of the sacks as crying baby ... Too late to save any of them" (Page 73). This was very sad farming babies for profit is very cruel and inhuman. My reason to continue reading is in ...

Heroin Diaries: Pg. 360-413

Throughout Heroin Diaries Nikki's addiction is slowly killing him. As readers we see something bad coming because of his drug use. Nikki is still trying to overcome his past, but is reluctant to talk, or express his emotion about his childhood. Only in his journal due we see what Nikki needs "I'm done, I'm fried  and I don't care. My heart is broken from my childhood. I'm worn to the bone from being driven like a slave and I've lost my will to do anything but fade...please..."(Page 375). His pain and suffering were only healed unfortunately with him basically dying. Once Nikki came to his reality his realization of these drugs are going to kill me came later. Finally, what we all wanted for the sake of Nikki's health is for him to confront his demons. He committed to his sobriety and admitted to his mistakes along the way which was a big step for him. Most importantly he rediscovered his passion and love for his music. When Nikki was strung out his...

Death Note: Post Three

After finishing Death note it kept me wanting more. This is because of the intriguing characters of Light and L. I wanted to see where their battle would end and how. This battle is so enticing because of their intellect each can match each other’s I.Q. and the fact that Light is a complete psychopath. Oddly though I do find Light’s character to be very interesting mainly because of his elaborate plans that always work out. Especially when Light sets three different traps for people entering his room “when I leave the room I always wait . . . then lower it about a quarter inch” (page 380). These small details are why I believe Light will triumph in the end. Even though I would like to see the man with the God complex lose. The police and L are risking their lives and that’s their downfall when Light figures this out their done for. Light’s father could also pose a major problem in future because of his involvement; this has me wondering if he will kill a member of his own family. If i...

Death Note: Post Two

As I continued to read Death Note Light or Kira's personality continued to develop in multiple ways. First is how Light acts at home as a perfect model student who goes above and beyond. This is quickly overshadowed when Light shows no remorse for killing people even when he's in the presences of his Father who is head of the NPA. He continues this even in conversation with him saying "I'm proud of you, Dad" (Page 219). Kira's personality is more of a psychopath and this is evident throughout the text. Kira likes and encourages the challenge of L; which I believe will be his downfall. Kira sends him various messages through criminals he kills this shows his cockiness and arrogance. "Love I've never know. And dessert is always apples? This is no life. I'm better off dead" (Page 212). He gives L small clues almost bragging and challenging him to find who he is before more people die. As crazy as this plan is it forces L to work together with a ...
