Death Note: Post Three

After finishing Death note it kept me wanting more. This is because of the intriguing characters of Light and L. I wanted to see where their battle would end and how. This battle is so enticing because of their intellect each can match each other’s I.Q. and the fact that Light is a complete psychopath. Oddly though I do find Light’s character to be very interesting mainly because of his elaborate plans that always work out. Especially when Light sets three different traps for people entering his room “when I leave the room I always wait . . . then lower it about a quarter inch” (page 380). These small details are why I believe Light will triumph in the end. Even though I would like to see the man with the God complex lose. The police and L are risking their lives and that’s their downfall when Light figures this out their done for. Light’s father could also pose a major problem in future because of his involvement; this has me wondering if he will kill a member of his own family. If it came down to it, he would from what I read. He will do anything in his lust for power and rule over the imperfect world.

  1. Interesting take on the prediction in terms of who is going to triumph in the end. I too, think that Light's immense amount of intelligence will benefit him in the end, as it has worked in his favor throughout the entire novel. Although shit really starts to hit the fan towards the end of Volume One and Light's character is tested as he tries to keep his cool in the midst of tough situations. We've seen him act spontaneously on some pretty wild occasions, which alone made me wonder just how far he will go to keep his Death Note. More importantly, how far is Light willing to go to protect Kira? Personally, if my bright future could someday be a not-so-bright future because of an alternative ego, I'm running away from that shit like it never existed. But unlike me, Light is so attached to this alternate ego that it has become one with his own. I don't think Light could survive without the power in which Kira gives him.

  2. That is a fair point about Light. It seems so far L has been portrayed to have grand scheming plans on the same level as Light, but I have to agree that Light insane attention to detail might just give him that advantage he needs. I feel that L only needs one good breakthrough and then I don’t think there is much Light could do. L has already made it far enough in the investigation to suspect the Yagami family of having Kira, while he has almost no real evidence to help him. L is relying on instinct more than evidence at this point. I will say that the ending of the series was very surprising to me the first time I read it.
