Throughout Heroin Diaries Nikki's addiction is slowly killing him. As readers we see something bad coming because of his drug use. Nikki is still trying to overcome his past, but is reluctant to talk, or express his emotion about his childhood. Only in his journal due we see what Nikki needs "I'm done, I'm fried and I don't care. My heart is broken from my childhood. I'm worn to the bone from being driven like a slave and I've lost my will to do anything but fade...please..."(Page 375). His pain and suffering were only healed unfortunately with him basically dying. Once Nikki came to his reality his realization of these drugs are going to kill me came later. Finally, what we all wanted for the sake of Nikki's health is for him to confront his demons. He committed to his sobriety and admitted to his mistakes along the way which was a big step for him.
