Death Note: Post One

Before starting the reading, I was very skeptical whether or not I would like it. In class on Thursday I thought to myself that this would be awful and would be a drag to get through. As I began to read I was pleasantly surprised by the plot. I found myself not caring that I was reading backwards or looking at constant pictures. I liked how Death Note started right away; no long intro or huge chapter about the characters. We as readers find information in bits and through the imagery in the book. I found out that Light the main character is quickly getting in over his head and thinks of himself as a god. "I'm going to make the whole world know I'm here that somebody is passing righteous judgment on them"(page 45). This idea is prevalent in the book as we continue to read; he accepts the challenge of the investigator L. Light still believes he is untouchable even when the investigation narrows down their search. This is because his father is head of the NPA and he can ...

Ready Player One: Post Three

One theme in Ready Player One is what you say or do online can impact your life significantly. Wade takes advantage of this as most OASIS users do. " We know who you are. Wade Owen Watts. Born August twelfth, 2004. Both parents deceased. And we also know  where   you are "(144 pg.) When his identity is revealed Wade is shocked never anticipating this could happen. The consequence was huge his whole neighborhood stack was destroyed in an IOI explosion. This connects in real life and shows that users are over confident in technology based security. Positives can be made from OASIS the best example is Parzival's friend Aech.  Aech is portrayed in OASIS as a white male avatar but is, an African American woman in reality. Her thinking behind this perfect, she is less likely to be stereotyped. More grunters will respect her and the opinion she holds without prejudice. Once Wade meets the woman be hide Aech he is pleasantly surprised that their friendship is unchangeable. His be...

Ready Player One: Post Two

Parzival and Art3mis's relationship seem to hit it off from the moment they meet in the Tomb of Horrors. Parzival is instantly in love from Art3mis's blog posts and when he finally meets her in person he feels the same way. With this new-found love comes distractions for both top level grunters. Parzival has no problem showing his affection during their chat session. "because I don't want to find out that I have a crush on some 300lb. pound dude named Chuck"pg.(170). This proves to be the fall of Parzival as he is more consumed with Art3mis than his true goal finding the egg. When Art3mis breaks this communication off Parzival is completely devastated and cannot focus on the egg. I don't believe hurting Parzival's feelings or side tracking his goal was her intention. She definitely feels the same way, but her goals of finding the egg and saving the planet are much more important. "It's not about the money. It's about what I could do with it...
Ready Player One gave myself an 80's history lesson right off the bat. Wade is an extremely smart individual who is eager to escape his own life and adventure into OASIS. This in my opinion is due to his own standing on the current economical scale. In reality, he is poor and unwanted and OASIS gives him a new world which he can flourish. Even though in this virtual reality to start with he is also financially poor. This is evident when I-rok calls Wade "Captain No-Credits". The rich still attacking the weak to feel better about themselves. Halliday's challenge gives Wade and every other poor struggling soul a chance out of the "stacks". It seems that the modern day middle class has been crushed and you either have money or don't. Another financial play in this story is IOI a corporation founded on winning the contest, and taking control of OASIS. They want to use OASIS as an advertising platform to make even more money. The rich keep on getting richer. ...
